Just had to re-install 9.102 after a bad HD crash.

Can someone remind me how to change the gyroscopic-looking Rotate Tool bands to the more traditional balls on the end of the axis?

So long since I played with these basic settings.....I've been digging around, but just can't remember how/where to do it.

Thnx in advance.

Cheers,

D.

Doh! Just found it myself. (ConfigureViews>Display>Rotation Bands tickbox)

Cheers.

I hope in one of the following versions the numerous important settings, that are now hiding in the Edit - Configure in the View menus (and elsewhere!) get moved to the Edit - Preferences -Viewport... etc, where they belong.

As the program is developing and improving at an impressive speed ( ) with every new release, it is becoming difficult to remember where all the various settings are hiding (Preferences, View - Configure, Render Settings...) if they are scattered all over the place. Putting all of them under Preferences would greatly increase efficiency, imho. Not meant as a negative criticism, of course, but as a positive, constructive suggestion...

Lovas - yes- that could make things easier in certain respects.

Perhaps the intention to separate certain settings in Configure View was to make them view-dependent, ie different settings for different view windows, rather than global?

It's taken me a day and a half of mucking about to get all my old settings back in C4D, OSX, VW, Mail and various other programs.

OS clean installs are a PITA.

Perhaps - but in that particular case I doubt it, since there are two settings in the same menu: Configure and Configure all. The latter should be definitely in the Preferences. While I see the point in separate views having separate configurations - I still don't understand the need to have hundreds of other, -global- settings scattered all over the UI (Render Setting, Command Manager, Menu Manager...). What's worse, some of those "setting groups" don't even have a simple "Save" button - so one often has to guess if the settings have been saved right away, will be saved on the file save, on the program close or only if the "Save Template" or something is issued...

How about collecting all the global settings (including menus, key-shortcuts, various UI configurations) in one place, for example under different tabs in Preferences, or at least in a common menu (the bottom of the Edit menu seems a promising place). Then adding a Save and Load button to the Preferences menu and a Merge button for each separate tab.

It is true that it is not the isolated problem with C4D but very common issue with variety of other software (with most of them, especially the 3D, the situation is even worse...) As I said, not a serious issue or a bug - but a small improvement that would (imho) make this excellent program even better and even more user-friendly!
