Simple question, i wanna create some text that are displayed in the Character map (for example the OHM sign §Ù)

When i try to create this , Maya displays a questionmark instead of the ohm sign.
I have tried copy / pasting the signs, and it still doesn't work...

Anyone know how i can write those characters ??

Thanks in advance

No idea.. I though this was a question about pasting anim clips by character map.... ;)

Good luck!

Yeah sorry about that :) didn't formulate the topic name correctly :)

Chappo,

i tried the same thing -- got the question mark. Grr.

How frustrating. Well, the quickest way around this I know of is to create the shape in Illustrator or Freehand and import in the linework.

If you don't have access to those then you could always draw it out by hand using some image planes ... :)

Cheers,
Sammy

Yeah , i know.... but believe me.....if you have to do alot of characters its tedious work and i want to have good and SOLID results instantly :)

How stupid that it doesn't work.... i thought it was just a standard thing :)

I think you have to change it to the correct font in the text option box before you can paste it in.

I tried it...... did it work with you ??

I've tried changing to Arial - wingdings and all the other in between and i still get a questionmark.

If one knows the exact way, i would like to hear about that :)

Hey Sammy,

Do you mean creating text objects in Maya? Like the copyright symbol and characters of that sort...

Works fine for me. Select Create->Text[] and then in the text field type (while holding the ALT key) 0169 (make sure you type this in, on the numeric key pad - not the numbers above the letter keys). That will display the © in the field. Then click create.

Hope that helps.

lostpencil,

although that's a great tip I'm going to have to commit to memory, Chappo is trying to figure out how to get a particular symbol ... the 'omega' symbol -- unfortunately there's no ALT combination that I could find ...

we've tried pasting it directly into the text editor from the Accessories > System Tools > Character Map without any luck so far ... any thoughts ?

Hey Sammy, hmmm... I just used the 'Symbol' font. It has an omega under 'w'. So you just select the Symbol font and type 'w' for the text. Attached is an image. Does that help?
