I need to animate the effect they had in the matrix after neo touches the mirror the stuff crawls up his skin. I need to do this with a simple model, nothing complex. Anyone have any suggestions on how I could do this? I'm drawing a blank when trying to figure out how to do it...

I was thinking maybe make some kind of particle emitter and have them collide with the model as a rigid body but it really doesn't look like the effect I'm going for.

(BTW I'm using Maya.)

Anyone know how to do this?

I'd use a post program like C* of After Effects to make an animated greyscale mask, use that to flip between two materials on your model, one like skin, the other like a mirror. you could even film some black paint pouring down a white piece of plastic or something, & use that as your mask...
