View Full Version : How to create a river??? HELP !!!

I currently doing a river(animation) right now , but i need a low file size of way to doing it ; thats mean i cant use particle for my river.
So i need nice expert people out there to help me solve this problem , THANKS .

Uh...there's a million ways you could do it, depending on your needs. You could use Maya fluids assuming you have access to Unlimited. You could use deformers, or even just animated textures.

Create the river - the liquid and banks of the river separately-
model the water using nurbs.
Make the water texture - animate and key the bump map and colour channels to provide the illusion of movement.
To enhance the realism of varing water depths and transparencies use ramp shaders of some type with a little noise.
To make it more realistic and give a more believable flow, you can also use a deformer.
With a curved river you can use a sine non-linear deformer and key the motion of the river object this will bend the liquid to the sine shape as if it were a path.
Using these two ideas you might be able to produce something passable.

unfortunately i didnt upgrade to Maya 4.5 yet so using fluid is impossible but i will try the way that u guys teach me.
