I am working on this simple flashlight. I am trying to get it to look the most photo real that I can, but now I'm kinda stuck.
Im using Max 5 with the light tracer right now, I also have Brazil but don't know much about it yet.
Any advise on how to make this look more real?

try to give some more details to the model itself... and here are few links to help you out.

Thanks, I will do that. But it is also the material (bronze type) that I don't know quite how to improve.

You seem to have a good start. The physical model looks good. Play around with brazil for it will solve the real world lighting issues. Like a nice black shadow against the ground plane. The next thing you will have to work with is the textures. Definately need to mess with the specular highlights and try to get the material to feel like metal. Metal has a specific shine to it. Then create maps to show some wear to the handle.

I would take a render of the object from the other side so we can see its lense. You should also place the object in some sort of environment that a maglite would normally be in.

Photo-realism, even with a simple maglite, isnt so simple, however it is a great exercise.

check this thread out to see how The Ripper does it to perfection:

Oh BTW, most maglites I am use to seeing are black. That may help?

Well, good luck and hope that this gets you unstuck...

Thanks for the advise, I should probably do it in black. I chose that colour because I have one like that. The reason that I took it from that angle is because I haven't done the lense yet.
