I know that the hair is terrible (you can see lines! ;__; ) and her wings look terribly 2-D. This is, however, pretty much my first 'realistic' CG painting, so I'm looking for some crits in order to improve.

She's my character Aelita. Done entirely in Photoshop with my tablet - about 2 hours.

I used to have some crazy interesting portraits but my skills were terrible. you have a good idea going there. I would try and not go into detail yet...remember, sometimes an artwork can take YEARS to finish...you shouldn't hope it takes years, but maybe try to just use blocks of colors first...and make sure to go through the 2d tutorials thread and the sketches threads...there are lots of resources to go through and they help you figure out things without having to take classes or pay for it which is cool.

other than that, the definition is nice in the frontal portion of her face the hair is cartoonish and doesn't have enough details.

I think if you focus on each section separately it'll help you so much.

Thank you - I just have so much rouble doing hair, I sort of gave up. I spent an hour on the face, and then about thirty minutes on the hair. I just couldn't get it to look right. But I'll keep trying. I actually did this about two months ago, so I'm inspired to have another go at it now.

I've spent about ten or fifteen minutes starting over with the hair. Now I have to go to bed, but hopefully I can get back to this in the morning. I think she looks more natural with the longer, darker hair. Less like Hinata, too. I don't even know who Hinata is, but everyone was saying that she looked like her. RAMBLING. x.x

Stormchylde: I don't see anything bad about the hair so-far. It just needs more time put into it. Check out Linda's tutorial on hair: http://www.furiae.com/index.php?view=gallery

Keep at it! :)

Really? Oh, wow. Thank you. ;__; I just feel very mediocre here, and I didn't want to spend a few hours working on it if I was wrong. I'll definitely check out that tutorial. Thank you!
