Title: Table
Name: Arpan Jolly
Country: India
Software: 3ds max
My very first 3D render with lights and some efforts on texturing. Would really look forward to any suggestions that would help me improve in future. Tried to make the glass look as realistic as possible.

cool for the first render! i really like the composition, light isn't bad but textures are so simple so they reduce realism to the image. What's that "crack" in the bottom of the glass?

I am not usually pointing my work as a reference, but I did this while ago, wanted to achieve similar look http://oweron.cgsociety.org/gallery/331371/
Scene is pretty simple, but in your case such a sketch texture on a paper and some factory labels on your pencils will help. Also a bit of FG instead of heavy area lights will give more natural look. Or maybe use the light from desk lamp to achieve night mood. My 2 cents  Keep progressing.
Edit: oh, and for second look - also a bit of variation in the lenght of pencils could be nice. You know, just those little details...

I guess that need more light contrast!! Try other collors on the pencils too!!
