Title: Paige with Attitude
Name: Sam Luk
Country: United States
Software: Lightwave 3D
Paige was created based on an original action adventure story idea I have. Her design was based on parameters I have setup for her character taits. The various poses here are samples of the actions she would perform in my story. When I created these poses, I pictured in my mind as if a 'real' photographer had been there directing her
poses, in order to make her attitude and liveliness jumped out at viewers. Most importantly, I want her to look cute and appealing. I hope viewers feel that way about her.
I created her using Lighwave3D 8.3. First I built up splines to make a rough cage to check the shape against my background drawings, then I built up polygons around it. Even though she's a cartoon-ish character, I used numerous human photo reference in creating the final looks. Her style to me is a cross between realistic human and cartoon style.
Photoshop was used to tweak for final touch ups.
I decided not to use any sort of hair plugin and instead made polygon hair because I find so-called realistic hair can be too eye-catching, especially on a cartoon style character. I prefer viewers focused on Paige's face rather on her hair. The important thing for me in making Paige is she has to project certain attitude and mood inside the viewers' mind no matter what technique or plugin or software package I am using.
Any comment or critique welcome.
