View Full Version : Aim at constraint wandering.
Kanga 03-01-2007, 11:25 PM Hi
c4d r10
I have applied an aim constraint to 2 eye bones so they look at a controller which is in turn constrained to a master controller of the entire heirarchy. During a run cycle one of the bones begins to wander away from its origin. Anyone know whats up?

did the joints have a scale value other than 1?

LucentDreams hi!
Nope there is no scaling on the bones.
Deleting and reapplying the constraints seems to have worked however. Does the order that you apply constraints in c4d make a difference?
Thanx once again for your kind help.

order can be important simply in that one solves after another. this relates to object order in the OM, tag order and expression priority on the tag, and then the order of the constraints within the tag. so constraints more so than any other area (except maybe xpresso) relies heavily on order. theres 2 videos cover this exact subject on cineversity http://www.cineversity.com/tutorials/search.asp?sor=priorities&sfo=1&son=all&sft=time&stm=&smb=&act=Search
that said without seeing the actual setup its hard to know if that was the problem or not.

LucentDreams Thanx.
Not a member of cinversity yet (gotta do that still). Anyhow here is a shot.

The screen wont tell us much so here is the file. No textures but that's not important I guess.

I can't really advise you on what to do... but I bet that's one funny render.
The wandering eye and all.

Hi Wes.
Its ok,... everything is working now,... we just don't know why yet:).
Checked out your site, you got some nice stuff on there!

looks like it might be what my first suspicion was. Theres a known bug with r10 and constraints where sometimes constraints will corrupt an objects scale and as an animation is played over and over again it gets worse and worse. If you look at your two eye joints they each have a scale just slightly over 1 now, 1.001 to 1.003 These errors could get worse. The solution does seem to be operating stable right now, its a risky bet. I'd probably scrap those joints put new ones in and do the constraining over again. Ive only encountered the bug once myself, but i know two other testers have suffered from it a few times.

Well I'll be jiggered!
Also being new to c4d means I am clicking on lots of things I am not supposed to. Those joints are history. Will replace them straight away.
Thanx for the speedy help as always.
