everything works fine, and in the tutorials i have done i dont get it, but when i use it on my model i get a line right down the middle......any tips on what i might be doing.....

i am box modeling, and the cube is at x,y,z 0

ive never had a problem with it before now, thats why i am asking.

There are two main reasons that happens to me. One is that the points on X, (or the middle) aren't perfectly lined up on 0. That, or maybe there is a full polygon sitting in the middle. This happens a lot if you extrude a poly on the center line. In that case turn off the symmetry object and see if there are any unwanted strays in the middle :)

Otherwise I dunno. Have a file you can share?

thanks for replying so quickly, i'll give that a try......the file is for the cia so i cant show it to you..........uhhhh yeah, im not imbarassed because of the low quality of it....yeah....its for the cia......haha.....anyway youre probably right...ill check the mesh again.

A 3rd reason might be that you have the hierarchy wrong

Bad-
-Symmetry
--HN
---Poly Object

Good-
-HN
--Symmetry
---Polygon Object

If your points aren't quite on center you can actually adjust the tolerance of welding in the symmetry object itself so it wont be quite so finneky.

thanks for the info....it was that some points were not at zero, the mesh was so messed up i started over........now it is fine.....except for the nose and a little bit at the crotch.....(not biggie there its not by much, although i dont know if i will run into trouble when i try and animate it. but the nose wont line up at all....no matter how i try and line it up, its so bad i might have to start over again just for the nose.

Don't attempt to select a number of points together and use the Coordinates manager to set their positions to unless you first set their scale in whatever axis also to 0 :D, i find it quicker to use the Structure->Set Point Value tool to set the selected points to 0 along any specific axis. Don't forget you can as I said simply up the tolerance value in the symmetry object to remove gaps. When you come to rigging it's probably best to not try to rig the object inside of a symmetry object so better to current state to object it then (though don't current state to object the hypernurbs mesh as you'll end up with a subdivided mesh which isn't what you want either).

thank you, i thought i was making good progress until i got to that.....i'll give it a try....thanks again.

sorry again, but everything looks great, until i 'current state to object', then the seam shows up again. ive looked in the manual, done tutorials...i even looked up some stuff in a book i bought a while back.....will i not be able to animate it without 'current state to object'ing it?

ive also done everything said in this thread, and that cleared it all up until this point...i took it out of Hn before i CStO and lined that one up too, in the structure menu in the object manager. but nothing seems to work....no pun intended..........

At this point... I think you're just going to have to upload the file for us to look at.

i think it made a mistake....i tried again and this time i used CStO with the symmetry object, and no line.....was i supposed to do that? or just the mesh itself.....if no i will try and load up a scene.........ack. so now i have this

HN
sym
mesh
sym
mesh

is that completly wrong?

i also tried mirror, and no line either, will i come into a problem when i try and animate it?
