Title: Nana
Name: Marco Di Lucca
Country: New Zealand
Software:

Hi ppl,

i am finally allowed to post here and around some render tests i have done a year ago for a chapter of an upcoming XSI book.
I was asked to make a chapter about organic modeling so i chose to model a head (reference pics from 3d.sk) since its one of the most popular tasks. All done in XSI. The diplacement pass was done in Mudbox.

cheers,
Marco

Gheese, everything is perfect except for the wrinkles under the (Viewers Right) eye, they look a little "gluggy" bit clay looking.

Otherwise its awesome.

I feel a bit under-qualified to comment on the model, and hate repeating the same positive things as everyone else. However, being a photographer for several years now, I can say that the lighting you're using would be appropriate for a villain or a monster, not a very warm and inviting face such as this one.

OK, I gotta say it, great work.

Thats really impressive.Well done! I know I have seen this granma somewhere, maybe on the street...Can u tell some techniques you used for sculpting in Modbox?

thanks all again. I will post other stuff as soon as I will have the permission to do it.
As for the Mudbox pass no special technique really. It was done on a very very early MB beta and it didnt even have the option to load a texture on to a model by that time so i just sculpted it by eye having the ref pics on the second monitor to have a look at while brushing up.

cheers,
Marco

heres the base mesh(around 6000 polys) and the final sculpt in MB :

I certainly admire the modelling, uv-ing and displacement work but (for me) the skin is rendered too thickly... the skin of an old face should be really frail, fragile like gossamer, except for areas of excessive fold and skin deposit. That can all be sorted out in the render pass - please keep up the good work, my intention with this response was only positive.

:)
