Sorry to bug you fellas

Totally new to Blender and don't find it very user friendly. It came with MetaVR and I need to use it to convert 3Ds file models to the type that MetaVR can use. It says it can do the conversion, but does not say how it works. I dont' see the "convert" command under the File pull-down menu or any other pull-down. The open command is really odd, as it does work as expected and you have to type the path. Unfortunately our work machines are not allowed to be connected to the internet, so the help files are unaccessable from the application's links.

In the folder I see the convert.exe, but when I double-click nothing happens and tried it in DOS mode and nothing happens.

I looked thru the tutorial files, but did not find anything for converting file types.

I googled, but have not found any other tutorials for file conversions.

Any help available?

What file types does MetaVR utilize? If we know that, we can likely be some help.

.flt is the OpenFight fotrmat. 2.43 CVS that I have running has the option to both import and export that format: File -> Export -> OpenFlight...

Try import the file (file, Import, 3D Studio (.3ds)...)
Do any edits you need to do,
Select the meshes..
Then export the selection to HPX , (File, Export, Metavr (.hpx)...)

convert.exe is used to convert images only.

.tex (MetaVR Texture Image)

.hpx (MetaVR 3D Model)

One of the engineers got the import command to partly work, so we can bring in the 3Ds and flt models into Blender, but not the textures. The textures files are either .bmp or png file types. flt are supposed to have the texture data embedded within the flt file, but it does work in Blender. The textures files are in the same location as when we created them and tested with Right Hemisphere/Deep Exploration.

Once we can get Blender to import (3Ds or flt) with the textures files, then we need to be able to export them as hpx and tex files for it to work in MetaVR.

Thanks

That may have been from the engineer I am working with.

It looks like we may have figured it out. Don't collapse the original 3D max model and make sure everything is 8 character name and 3 character extension. It worked with an uncollapsed and ungrouped 2-story building i created a year ago with walls, floors, and stairways steps; with individual bmps for the interior and exterior of the ploy objects.
