another simple question
if i poly lasso a shape how can i paint on the outside of
the dotted lines?

press ctrl + i to invert your selection. This selects everything outside of your original lasso.

for such small questions, try referring to the help file in photoshop first... u'll find it much more useful and responsive.

ctrl + shift + i = selection > inverse <-- the one you want

ctrl + i = image > adjust > invert

When ever you come across a key combo that you think you will be using often, write it on a Post-It and stick it to your monitor. Once it's in your head, put a knew Post-It up with a new key combo.

i agree the help file...the manual are all there for a reason ..... and if you dont have those the adobe website........

well if you want to paint "ON" the outside of the line. Then you will have to 'stroke' it.
