My latest matte.
Did this one for the gnomon contest. I was pretty happy with how it came out. I made some changes after I got some really good advice, and Im pretty happy with it all in all.

I modelled the outpost in XSI, textured in photoshop, and all the rest was done exclusively in Photoshop:

And here is the initial concept sketch to get values worked out, plus my reference material, and the 3D render:

Any comments / crits are very much appreciated.

Hey Nick great stuff! I would suggest adding some more color into the trees and rock , Mainly in the foreground. It feels very monocromatic now and some color may help the structure sit in bette.

Keep up the good work :D

I find perspective really weird, a little bit slashed to left I agree about the colors if you have that saturated yellow everything else should be as saturated as it is, or desaturate it so you get all together
I would also try some foreground elements to give a stronger depth and scale feeling
I feel a little wrong the color palette , some trees are green and some other look blueish almost in the same depth plane, try to get green closer and blue further away

hey,

overall idea is good but i agree with james about the prespective on the left cliff and depth...remember always warmer colours at the front and cooler at the back. it does the trick...

keep it up :)

Thanks for the comments guys, I agree that there is still a lot that could be done to improve this. I am actually gonna leave this one coz i have a big storyboard project I have to do for college so im not gonna get chance to work on it for a while anyway. I did this one for the gnomon contest which has finished now too, but the comments are very much appreciated and ill keep them in mind for my next piece.

Thanks again

Nick
