please forgive me about this post, but i cant get in the right direction via google or cgtalk search. my question is how do you have multiple uv's for one object. does any one have a direct tutorial or have a quick solution. from what i understand i can have 1 planer mapping for x amout of polygons and have another for another x amout of polygons and then move, sew them together. but, what i need is to have a top and side projection for the top of my car and the side and top projection for the side of my car. the projectios are going to overlap each other and cancel out the parts that overlap. it confuses me to try and explain. i hope someone understands the nonsence i wrote.

UV sets should do it. They allow you to have multiple projections of the same polygons, though not for the same uv map.

There is option in each UVing command to create to new UVset.
Then link desired texture to the UVset by Windows->Reletionship Editors->UV linking.

ok i got it to work useing uvset, Reletionship Editors->UV linking, and layerd textures but the only way i can render it out is if i use i layer mode like multiply or luminosity, and i dont want to do that becouse it will change the over all color. one color still over laps the other, im guessing an alpha or transparency is in order, but i cant seem to find the right place to put it or them if i need two.

ok

i'v got two uv's set up in one uv set. the question now is how do i apply it so i can have two textures with two uv's on one object. i have both of them on the object but only one shows up at a time, i cant get both of them to show up together. one covers the other.

You have to either use a UV chooser node to select each individual UV set and assign a shader for each UV set. or you can do it the old fashion way and assign a different shader to different UV elements, To make this less confusing I select my individual UVs element and mathamatically move them to differnt quarants using transform component. I hope this helps.

im confused, i have object A and B with a top y projection. also i have object B with a x projection. A and B need texture 1 in y projection while abject B need texture 2 in the x projection. i cant get b right without compromising A and B

look my problem, my poor modeling techneque got me in trouble. so in order for me to project the hood and top fender i need to project them to gether. but, that leaves me with the side projection witch already has a uv that is shared with the hood. so are your suggestions going work for this. im just tring to make this more clear becouse im the one whos confused.. pleas exuse my test textureing, but some if that red is supposed to be on the fender also.

Do you have to have multiple UV sets? I assume you're trying to do something like decals on your car, right? If so, you might consider creating the textures as projections rather than normal, and then baking your resulting texture onto automatic mapped UVs. That way you can tweak the projections until they're exactly how you want them, without distortion, and let Maya handle the hard work of unwrapping. Would that resolve your issue?

i am projecting, im useing top and side projection. the problem is i need a side projection and a top projection on one object. but , one always cancels the other out. iv come to the conclusion that you cant use uv sets for two objects at once. they only work for one. the green seleted object is one object, so ineed to have a top projection to match up with the hood and a side projection for the side of the car. i guess what im trying to say is that once i top project the hood and the other piece i can no longer project the side of the car because the uv is wasted for the top projection. i want to share one uv with the hood and the othet part and then have a seperate uv for the side of the car.

does any at lest under stand my problem.

i appriciate the help

ok i understand what your talking about now when you say normal vs projection im trying it. to see what happens. uv mapping is a pain in the _ _ _.

please keep throughing out suggestions.
