View Full Version : maya 6.0.1 rendering won't...
sparaig 02-27-2007, 10:40 AM Suddenly, I can't get Maya 6.0.1 to batch render. Actually, since I've been working on modeling and whatnot for a while and not animation, I haveno idea WHEN it stopped working, but it sure won't now. I have a copy of student unlimited 6.0.1 for the Mac and can't find the update file from 6.0 to 6.0.1 so that isn't an option.
The only thing I can think that I have done is to accidentally run 7.0PLE at one point.
ANy suggestions short of reinstalling 6.0? Anyone have the Mac 6.0.1 updater?
Sigh. I am unable to render more than one frame right now.
I am NOT a happy camper.
Thanks for your help.

Huh. I checked the console output and it said this:
Warning: globalRender has no renderable passes, the layer passes can be modified in the Render Globals window.
I went into the global rendering preferences and found something resembling that term in the maya software panel. I turned on "enable render layers" and got a single rendered image. I then checked "enable render layer passes" and got what looks to be the right output, but with "Beauty" tacked onto the name of each image, which I have never seen before.
I guess it is sorta working now, but darn if I know why, or what these options mean.
Any further suggestions?

OK, did more checking. "Beauty" is the default way in which the renderer is supposed to work. It composites all possible render passes on-the-fly. I'm guessing that when I ran 7.0PLE last night, it corrupted some undocumented preference file that the 6.0 renderer uses and the global render options are now out-of-synch with the file and it didn't do any rendering at all when nothing is enabled. When I manually enable render passes, this overrides the corrupted preference setting for the renderer. I know that its not part of the standard preferences because trashing the prefs folder does no good.
We now return to my continuing futile efforts to learn how to use Maya. ;-/
Hopes this helps someone in the future.
