Hello all,
This is my first challenge and I made it just in time by the looks of things. Races of Middle Earth is a great idea.
I'll post the sketch I made a few weeks ago, and then the model I've been working on furiously to finish. I only decided to enter this challenge a very short time ago (very short!)
My race are a group of catlike humanoids called the Niall. They generally stand 6-7 feet tall, are covered in fur, (colors vary from grey, black or tan), have claws, the face of a mountain lion, with the body being more human like in appearance. The have infravision up to 60 feet, excellent sight and hearing, and are very agile. The Niall hail from the forests of Forlond near the Gulf of Lune.
In the days of old , they walked as free beings, and made friends and fought alongside with all manner of Men, Dwarves and Elves.
However, as the ages past thier numbers grew smaller and they were seen less and less, keeping more and more to themselves, in time passing out of history into legend. Niall prefer to keep to themselves, and thus try to remain hidden from the rest of the races. Most of the other races know them only by legend now, and only the elves know truly of thier existence, preferring to keep them secret. The wood elves in Forlond have made an alliance with them in return for trade. Niall speak thier own language, but have also passed down the Common tongue.
They have a sense of nobility and personal honor.
Niall belong to a shamanistic society worshipping Lonyx, thier god of the Moon. They are very in tune with nature and serve to protect and give back to thier forest home. Upon becoming a chieftain, thier leader must make a pilgramage to a small forest near the Misty Mountains (where it is said they originated from), to recieve his wisdom, marking one of the few times a Niall can be seen so far from his home. Neutral in choice, Niall can be fierce warriors as many a stray orc or goblin can attest. They train in combat diligently preferring staff type weapons. Armor tends to be mainly leather, wood, sometimes metal, usually by trade, though they can make thier own. Hooded cloaks are common.

Well, there is a lot of great talent in this challenge, I'm enjoying all the cool work that's being done.
