Title: Going Digital Just Because It's So Fashionable
Name: Robert Tiess
Country: USA
Software: Blender

This is a project I finished a few months ago in Blender. As you might gather from the title and the image, this decidedly stylized piece reflects on the fashionable and ephemeral aspects of technology and how we increasingly find ourselves in a digitized if not cybernetic lifestyle, such to the point perhaps part of us, the essence of who and what we are, may disappear.

Thank you very much for viewing my work,

RobertT

the essence of who and what we are, may disappear.
Perhaps transform, or mutate. But I don't think our essence will ever disappear.
The short version as I see it::
Depends on if your idea of the essence of who and what we are is static. And if you are unable to update those ideas with new information.
To me, that ability to update our ideas, IS a major part of our essence.
And if we retain that, everything else is inherently human because we create it.
I look at reality as entirely created by us, in which we are the center because we are the observer of that which we create. Being that we are the observer, it is easy to get the idea that reality is something external in which we only interact with.
But that's an incorrect observation, because for what we consider to be reality (series of events which are interrelated) requires us to be there to make those connections.
The only thing that makes reality tangible to us is our perception of it, which varies from person to person.

My opinion of course, take it for what it's worth...

Well...I guess using the technique just for the technique is the bad thing... That's not just the case of the CG art…it's the state of many aspects of art …

But take look at the wonderful creative ideas come from those CG artists whom using the digital techniques to serve the main concept of the artwork. (Like a lot of the artworks in this forum)

I think the role of any tool or technology in art is count on how the artist could use this new tool to embed his\her ideas or conceptions in his\her artwork.

I like your work its remind me of some surreal artworks.

dtoxxx: Great response! Thanks! In terms of essence I'm thinking more in the context of futuristic discussions of technology in the "post-human" / "post-biological" sense, when humans might make a transition from cyborgs to a near complete or total digital life/lifestyle.

requiem2d: Thank you! I like pursuing different ideas and expressing them in varied styles.

Silverwing: Thank you very much. It's always interesting to see how far I can push the internal renderer.

cglight: Oh yes, I agree. Technology can be an amazing tool in art. In exploring the fashionable side of technology I was thinking more in terms consumer-oriented trendy technologies (wide screens, game consoles, mp3 players, cell phones, etc.). As a multimedia digital artist (painting, music, sculpture, animation, etc.) I am always interested in discovering new ways to use technological tools creatively. Blender's rapid growth has expanded my toolset dramatically, and through it I feel quite to explore any number of ideas.

Thank you all again for your interest in my work. It means a lot to me :)
