Ey!
I only use references for the hand, some friends usually says to me that i always draw girls with very masculine hands...well, it's my own hand, so... they have part of reason.
Here's a detail and thank you for the comments!

Hi David,
this is a great painting, you have a very good knowledge of technique.
I think she looks a little too young (despite the breasts) to be wearing clothes like that, but maybe that's just me...

Man, really impressive, one of the best images I've seen here on last times. 5 stars! Maidith said that she looks too young...In my opinion too. But I believe it wasn't your intention. I had some problems with this in a recent work. It seems that we just can draw woman with enormous breasts and hips, otherwise people think they are kids.

Just dawned on me, if this was a little contest at work, I'd love to see the other artists stuff.

Haha, my thoughts exactly. It's a surreal, modern Norman Rockwell. This isn't a criticism. On the contrary. The rendering is really fantatic. As for the subject matter, that's me every morning. ;)

Just dawned on me, if this was a little contest at work, I'd love to see the other artists stuff.
jejeje, Precisely olijosman was the causer of the challenge . A "no hay huevos...challenge" we call here. Really it was a personal challenge proposed by my companions after knowing the work of olijosman, who we admire so much. So no more competitors.
I did some works to avatar press and IDW publishing few years ago, and after a "relaxed time" in the world of the CGanimation realizing studies of color, backgrounds, mattes, etc... I want to start drawing new personal material with all that i learned.
Thank you to all for the comments!!! it's really a pleasure!!! No web yet and no much extend CV, hope that change in no much time.

i prefer to paint from shadows to lights, and no so much tricks....version 6 of photoshop (i like the airbrush and the brush in diferent tools...J 'n' B...odd habits i supose) and things like a noise pass at end to get off the antinatural digital aspect of colors.

Now that I've peeled my eyes off the monitor, I have to say this is one of the best paintings I've seen in a long time. I had to take a look at the Kandar website and it's amazing; what a brilliant collection of works. I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

plugged! I told you so :)
This piece is really awesome. And I have to disagree that she looks a little young. Although she doesn't look like the average 22 year old she is easily believable as 22. She looks young for her age but not unbelievable. I have known plenty of girls in college that look like this but are not minors. Also I really love her her proportions, although her hands and feet seem big I think they add alot to her character. If she was purely realistic and not stylized she would not be nearly as interesting. All in all a really amazing piece

That is really just a great image... artistically and technically speaking (imo).
I'd swear it's 3d (not because of the look)... only because you took such care in the details such as the knuckles reflecting in the mug... along with other subtle lighting properties... also looks like a little sheen or reflection on the tattoo... all very nice, things that if prepared correctly would be done for you in a render engine. Hope that came out right :)
Excellent.

Well, except for the already pointed out hand, and knees. The youth "problem" maybe be caused by her small looking torso. Maybe that's what's making her look younger than what she is supposed to be?
Also liked the aforementioned P-Chan tattoo, and the possibly unmentioned Akira coffee mug. :)

just maybe is she a very little too rough? But this is might be a question of taste? Well in an another way, the fact she looks like a little boy a bit, gives her this "not yet awaked" not yet refined...

I love the painterly quality of the skin of the girl and the super-sleepy pose - the hair is extremely distinctive and the presentation (that 50% grey look) is eye-pokingly good.

Hi!, I use a filter/texturizer/sandstone in a grey top layer in overlay mode, and mask the zones i don't need. In this case was valid for the skin, the chair and the sock. And them add a noise to all...here you can see how that affects!

Hi!, I use a filter/texturizer/sandstone in a grey top layer in overlay mode, and mask the zones i don't need. In this case was valid for the skin, the chair and the sock. And them add a noise to all...here you can see how that affects!

Unbelievably well crafted!! I love everything about it. The lights, especially around the hair. Skin tones great, Character sits in space, expression conveys what is is suppose to convey. (Easier said than done)
The only thing I don't like is that she seems to trust that coffee thinga-ma-jig, a little to much. One wobble and I can see her skin tones changing to something less desirable and more painful.
keep up the good work.

Sadly
Being the artist I am, I can appeciate the painting skills of the artist.
What I DON'T appeciate is the message and that it is a little girl with
her panties kinda off her, and that she look like a seven year old abused girl.
So I'm NOT offending the ART oonly the SUBJECT and it's MESSAGE.

What the hell? Are you kidding? She looks like an adult Asian girl to me(my half-sister is Korean). Also, I'm surprised you don't notice the character is highly stylised and similar to Noodle from the Gorillaz or Jamie Hewlett's other work(adults by the way). And would you consider a statue in a fountain of a nude child offensive or carrying some "message"?
And how does she look "abused"? How many seven year old girls do you know with whopping big tattoos with breasts who drink coffee in the morning?
You really should be careful about accusing someone of something so serious or at least choose your words more carefully. You make a lot of assumptions on the motive of the artist and stating what the message "is" like it's a fact when it most definitely is not.

How could you even call yourself "artist" when you are judging others' arts with such twisted perception? don't try to bring your issues and baggages into this forum, man!
I think you are such a "sad" case who thrives to get attention.
sorry, I looked at your portfolio and nothing was impressive as this art.
Whoa. That's a little much. I didn't agree with how he expressed hisself(he's entitled to his opinion), but there's no need to critcise his work or call him "sad".

I definitely went too far..going back to reading what I said..
I can't judge sadly's art based on what he said or done...it was my bad..it's his right to express his thoughts...
I do overeact when I don't agree with others..I guess..especially when someone sees the world in narrow view or with closed mind (i guess that's my opinion, too)
anyway, my apologies

nitesword,
Thank you for your apology, please remember that these forums are heavily moderated to prevent flaming to and amongst artists. I know that you are new here, but we try to maintain a respectful tone on the forums. It's not to say that you cannot critique work, but please refrain from acting in a beligerent way towards individuals.
So long as the rules are respected here, you will learn a lot here on CGTalk. :)
EDIT: For the record, I plugged the image, and I'm asian and female, and don't find the image offensive at all. However, everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion. :)

it was not cool calling those with different views as "closed mind" and questioning their professionalism...
What I don't understand is people making assumptions based on their perception, instead looking at the context and see what is really happening.
The context here is a girl who just got up, which is done very well with her eyes closed, one sock missing, and panties sort of coming off...it would have been awkard if she had pajamas, etc. I know many girls going to sleep without their pajamas...or cloths..
another thing about this piece is the artist's interests in japanese art.
the girl's tattoo is from Ranma 1/2, which is one of all time favorites and the writing on the mug is possibly "Akira" which is one of the best animation for decades..I have not yet seen any animation so far that matching the scale of this animation even though it was released almost ten years ago...and there's lots of nudity in japanese comics..whether they are for kids or adults.....
speaking of nudity, people often see nudity in old paintings and sculptures as artistic (naked young girl angels) but feel uneasy about it in modern arts. It was to my surprise that even artists (CG forum) have these "perceptions" about nudity.

...excuse me moderators...
I suppose that cas3dxserve gave an opinion and not an accusation. But with incorrect words...
I believe that the image is understood well. In anime/manga is habitual to exaggerate the size of the head (or the hair) to obtain a candid aspect in girls, it's possible that causes some misunderstanding.
I am delighted with the forum, charmed with the level and quality that exists in it and wanting to contribute with much more opinions and new illustrations.
Cheers!! And once again, thanks for all the comments and critics!!

Amazing! Simple, elegant with a twist concept and highly endearing in a non-intended (for the girl) way. Kind of like a snapshot of a precious moment where all she thinks about is whatever she was dreaming about a second before and this little voice in the back saying 'must get up ...'. The arm is holding the cup more as a reflex than an intended action, not noticing anything around her.
Also, nice mix of stylished shapes with realistic rendering.
And I don't think she looks too young. I have a Japanese friend who's 24 and looks half the age of the girl in your painting. Small face on a rather large head tends to give that effect. Quite common in Asian regions actually.
