View Full Version : hard surface fluids examples
coccosoids 02-24-2007, 12:02 PM can someone point out an example of fluids (hard surface fluids) done in maya
with their integrated solver. i'm not expecting some fancy movie type effect, i'm just curious to see if the so called 'average joe' can realize something like that on an average joe computer.
thanks...

I assume by hard surface you mean things like water? Unfortunately maya isnt very good at that sort of thing without plug-ins. With fluids you can do some pretty nice looking lavas and the ocean shader works good for what it does, but maya doesn't currently have a solver for liquids so you'd have to use something like realflow to do the simulations and then bring that infomation into maya.
Can you be more specific about what sort of shots you're looking for?

hi, thanks for answering...
i was hoping to do something like a cup of coloured water pouring into a fishtank and getting that dissipated effect.
but like you mentioned i don't find maya alone very good at this.
I wanted to ask though, if you were to use realflow, and i would have a transparent fishtank when the mesh would be generated against the glass walls how would it look like? would it be wavy like some sort of blob?
