View Full Version : procedural mesh (?)
wtoddk 02-28-2003, 09:30 AM I'm not even sure how to title this...but, what I'm looking to do is repeat an object (chickenwire) repeatedly over a mesh, like an egg, or a girl, for example.
Does anyone know a way to do this with max 5?
btw, I'm not talking about simply a texture of chicken wire, but an actual model...
for reference, take a look at

Thanks in advance!!!

Geez ! Meats did an awesome job !!
well i'm not quite sure what you mean by "chickenwire" (i'll have to check that out in a dictionary), but here are a couple thoughts, not sure about it giving the results yuo're looking for...
maybe try a scatter ? but it does not seem to be the right stuff, so maybe a script like the Freehand Tools ?

a scripted tool allowing you to paint objects on other's surfaces.. i know it paints wires, which you could then extrude or something like that ?

see the attached foto for what I mean by "chicken wire". I've tried out the free hand tools....great tool!!! Not sure it'll do what I need though....to make sure that all the fence (chicken wire) is connected together smoothly.
What's this about "scatter"?
Thanks....

Hmm, those look a lot like renderable splines.

right...seems easy, huh? But what about the coils around 2 of each 6 sides of the shape? (see attached pic)
I was thinking I could project a (nurb?) spline onto the surface ( model of egg/ woman, etc.) then render the spline, like you said....but then how would I get the 2000 coils into place?

I think what you need is Wrapper...
