Hi,

I've been working on a my first character (modeling/rigging/etc) and learning as I go along. I have just sculpted a new knee for the pants that has folds in it that can collapse nicely when the leg bends (not cloth, just polys) but I'm having trouble combining this new knee with the old pants geometry. After Ive merged the edges I got an obvious materials seam at the boundry (see image below). I have given the new polys the same blinn material as the rest of the pants but the seam is still there. What's going on here?

I suspect some kind of lighting shading group needs to be deleted from the new knee polys but when I delete it, the polys get deleted also. I think I need a little help with how to do this properly

I still have no idea whats going on here with these mystery shaders but I fixed the problem by converting to fbx and re-importing the converted file. I usually don't like how fbx strips down maya files but it was useful for stripping away the weird material shader and giving me back what I expected. I hate learning maya this way b/c I don't learn anything except how to hack through a problem.
