I already made my seams for my character, but when I bring in certain sections i noticed that some verts needed to be weilded and cut. Is there a way I can go back into edit poly and change some geometry without messing up the seems i already created???

Hi Animalator. I'm not sure if I'm qualified to answer your question as I'm a student. From what I've learnt and know, Unwrap UVW is an irreversible process kind of thing. If you want to go back, you'll have to delete the modifier. (I'm assuming you're using 3D max?) Assuming that you're using max, saving the uvw file will not help either as the polys have changed and are different.

Ya so I think the only way is to redo. That's what I've been doing. Re-unwrapping the same model many times in fact. Hopefully, I may be wrong. Will someone else more experienced clarify this?

This may work for you.

If you collapse your model, so you now just have an editable poly, it should retain all the changes you did in your UVWUnwarp modifier. Then weld your vertexes. Then apply a new uvwUnwrap modifier and check your mapping, it should be mostly correct, you may need to do a little hand editing.

You could also try an editpoly modifier ontop of your uvwunwrap modifier, instead of under it.
