View Full Version : Looking for Save Perspective script
markdc 02-28-2003, 05:26 AM Looking for the Save Perspective script (used to be on scriptspot)or something like it. Basically I tried Houdini which allows you to save your perspective viewport position(s). This would be a huge time saver for me. Thanks.

Just a thought... Why don't you create free camera and match (alt+c) it to your view?

Yeah I do something like that now. If you try Houdini and see how there viewport memory works, you'll understand why it's much better.

I believe max has had this for ages.....
never looked at:
views-> save active xxxxx
...... then when you need to restore go
views-> restore active xxxx
but then again...
maybe look in the help file or something or even look in the manual.

It's not the same thing. That restores a single position. Houdini lets you save a bank of positions in memory slots. Please see houdini if you want to know what I'm talking about.

well there still is something like that on scriptspot, don't know if it will help you though... it's only for 3.x

maybe you already knew this, otherwise just try if it still works with 3dsmax 4/5
grab a script from scriptspot that converts persp to camera....save the cameras in a file and merge in when necessary :)

Following the advice of ssalo and Khepri, I discovered two things:
1) It's riduculously easy to create a camera and match it to current viewport.
2) It's ridiculously easy to change viewing camera in a bank.

I don't know about the script brian_dlm was after, but I've written a quick-and-dirty script to save and restore multiple perspective and user views. Doesn't use cameras, and the view list saves with your scenes.
Go get it! (http://host.deluxnetwork.com/~rhyde/srv.html)
When you get to the download page, you'll probably want to right-click and do save as...
Cheers :)

LF, you are on fire with your scripts tonight arent you:) . Good stuff!
Howdy !
did not want to get in there, afraid i'd be in a line of fire : )
but i've been thinking, reading this thread, about Blur's MakeCamera script, which works pretty well, in any view, as many times as you'd want ....
but that's just an idea...
