Hi everyone

This is a trailer that myself and co-creator Ryan Benjamin produced. We're trying to nail down the cell shading style... But, we're learning as we go... This was our first attempt translating a comic book character to animation... The cell shading seems to work. Oh, and the trailer is lowrez... Sorry

Anyway, Hope you like it and content on the site aswell...

Looking good there, only crit find a new voice-talent the one used here sounded very canned/amatuerish (no offense) but yeah it kinda brought that the incredible work you did. You need to have a nice heavy set voice, kinda raspy and mysterious.

Very nice job nonetheless [plugged]

Hey conjaman,

I first want to say that after I read the first issue last year, I immediately made it my purpose to find more about it all. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any others (do they exist? And where can I get them?). I loved what I saw though. Vagabond is the best comic book/graphic novel I've ever read or even heard about. The art is absolutely beautiful--the very best. And I was immediately taken by the story. I’m not exaggerating either. I really do think it’s the best.

As far as comments about the animation: The thing that bothers me the most is that you're using cel shading. I think you're better than that. It doesn't match the book stylistically. Cel gives everything a harsher look to its objects, but the book has a very soft feel about it. All of the objects have a kind of glow to them, etc. I’d love to see some of the great lighting from the coloring of the book come through in it too.

When I read through the book I always knew that it would translate to CG animation really well. But I also knew it would take a lot of work. Keep it up.

Later,
Chris

WOW! Thanks, BLAKBOKS!

Yeah, Ryan and I only released one issue of Vagabond. We've since worked in comics on various projects, but we wanted to learn 3d... We've played with the idea of starting the series over, but we felt that it would be cool to try it in an anime/3d animation style.

I can't lie, cellshading is the fastest way to render scenes than fullblown textures and Bumps etc.... But, it also seemed to give the character a different, Fresh look for us, since we've only scene him in the comic book style for so long.

But, the trailer was just something for us to do. We wanted to test what we've learned in 3d over the past couple of years and translate it in to something we love.... We've had positive response from the trailer, and maybe one day we'll do a full blown animated episode...

Your words are motivation enough to consider doing the book again...

Thanks

Sean
