Title: Gerald Broms Helexa (3D adaptation)
Name: Pär Tingström
Country: United Kingdom
Software:

Looong time no post. I wanted to play around in Mudbox so I thought that Broms "Helexa" painting would be perfect as a concept.
I wanted to make my own version of it and never intended it to be an exact copy.

Enjoy.

Program used:

Maya
Mudbox
Photoshop

OMG! I am huge fan of Brom´s imaginery. What I also love speaking about his work, is that decent skin shadowing with ArtNouveau feel. Your interpretation gives it another dimension. Great job! 5*

Thank you, you're way to nice! Here are some WIP shots, she ended up in about 2 million polys. As you notice she doesn't have the same eyes, that is because I tessellated the head one more step to get the right detail and then rendered it out separately.

Nice model.

I've just bought Mudbox and am still learning ;)

Did you model the base mesh in Maya or was it all done in Mudbox?

How did you sort out the UV map?

Cheers

Oh, excellent work .. and thank you for sharing the Mudbox breakdown (I am amazed how rough the initial figure is conpared to your fantastic result).

Could you perhaps explain/show a bit about how you textured this figute, did you create the uwv after returning the high detail model to Maya or is is a uvw map based on the initial rough model?

Thanks

Joining the choir of praise here, only one crit; the nipple looks unnaturally red, flat and big, especially considering her hungry 'skin and bone' look (emanciated?).

She should probably have a pointier breast altogether to get it to look more real, and a paler color.

Just have to shoot in that I know its after a painting yes, I just think you can do it realistic when the rest of the pic is so real.

Wow LLcattivo,

All I can say is this model is quite amazing! It was not all that long ago that I was looking at a Book of Broms work and I was so taken back by this picture! I too thought that this painting would make a great 3D model. I guess that you beet me to the punch. I really like your interpretation. I would really love to see other perspectives of this model.

I was just looking at your website and did not see a demo reel of your work? Do you have a recent reel? I would love to see your work!

Absolutely amazing Work!

Hi, It remembered me a lot the Pascal Blanche style of previous works in 3D of course is the Brom 2D picture. I like a lot this two artists (Pascal and Brom) and love what you have achieved with your picture. Your version is a little diferent but this is what make your style and your hand working on it. Is a pleasure to meet you here with this.

Hey, what a great way to start the morning, did not see a CgChoice coming for this one.:)
Again, I am so grateful for all the positive feedback it really gives you inspiration and energy to work on your own stuff. I can't wait until I get started on my next pice, which will feature one or two of my favourite movie monsters. I just need to get out of this crunch at work first.

Attached are the two scaled down versions of my diffuse textures used for the sss material in mr, Helexa_d was used for the Diffuse color and Epidermal Scatter color layer, Helexa_d2 for the Subdermal Scatter layer. Also note how the right side is more detailed than the left. My plan was to do a 360 render for my reel but the render time for one frame was far to high so I couldn't be bothered to texture both sides properly. The textures are originally 4096x4096 and the material also includes a bump and spec.

AUMAKUA - There are some pix at the first page of the thread, hope that will do for now.

turner and Xlars - Yes I made the base mesh in Maya, I wanted to try to start as simple as possible and see how much detail Mudbox could handle. In perspective I should have used a more dense mesh in the face/eye and hand regions.
The UV map was made in Maya on the base mesh.

InKraBid - Yes you are so right about the breasts they look a bit weird, I think it would have been cooler if she had really skinny saggy tits, can't believe I didn't think of that. Dammit!:)

koroko - Hey thanks, que pasa? What's up with your home page?

cc909 - I have a reel but it's not as polished as I liked it to be, need one more good render before it will go public.

pascal_blanche - Thanks, and yes I did send it to him and it sounded like he liked it.

JCGA - Yes I have and I am. I did the model during the Christmas holidays and after that I spent an hour here and there to get it done. What's that new project of yours (www.binarymorgue.com (http://www.binarymorgue.com) ) , can't wait to see it!

jiX - Japp, I'm Svensk. Used to live in Uppsala before I moved here.

Thanks a million everyone....

Hi Il Cattivo!
You are a very good texture painter, for me(i'm not a 3d worker).
But i think that you can scale a texture dimension (2048x2048)for improve the rendering time.
Do i say well?
however you make a very good works, i attend your demoreel!!

I have to admit, this is really looking nice! i'd love to see some wireframes of some of those armour plates, your project is inspiring myself to keep slugging even harder at my own and he's got armour plates in the works as well (though not metal/wood/bone, more tribal like studded leather/bone) and it would be awesome to see how you did it (yeah, i'll admit to still learning a good chunk)

seriously though, this certainly is great work!

The poly models look awesome! Love seeing the progression to the final concept. The texturing is really nice. Did you create the texturing for the background from scratch? Excellent work. The only problem I see is that the forearms seem a bit too long. Other than that outstanding work.
