View Full Version : Shader for mobile phone
Grashupfa 02-21-2007, 11:23 AM Hi, I am completly new to shading, however, i've modelled/textured for nearly 3 years now. Recently, i started modelling my mobile phone and i want to shade that now...which mental ray shader would be the best approach to do that? I am really stuck,...please help me ;)

That really depends on what the phone looks like. CAn you post a picture of your phone or of a similar one? Also, you shouldn't really need MR shaders for it. I think regular Maya shaders would work quite well.

mia_material, handles all your physically accurate shading needs, except SSS

i tried it several times (i only have experience in uvw mapping and texturing for games) and it didnt look like that, looked crappy more or less....
Any Tutoirals would be helpful, i really dunno where to start

hmm.. if is about uv(I don't know if that is the problem) ------you could start with layout your uv ,from my experience -on the phones:) it is enough to make a planar projection, but be careful -do not tuch any uv ,I also aply planar projection for the side of the phone ,
The rest of the job is made in Photoshop, and yes -the shader , this is yor choice but mia material with blury reflections will do the job,or a DGS, or...any other material whith a good texture ( color&bump), hope this help :)

:) I guess so... Unfortunately there is no rule for chosen the right material/shader,you just have to know what you want from that shader. -have you try mia ?

Hehe, yes i have, but there the problem starts. I'm seeking for any tutorials which explain to me, what all these options for example in the mia shader mean....i can't just randomly configure the shader and test it all the time, isn't there any help to understand what these options mean?
