Zhrike 02-20-2007, 07:14 AM Yes I know the smoke looks real bad, but I couldnt get this right in PS, probably becuase my drawing experience consist of just finishing Betty Edwards book this last month. Anyway, looking for some crits overall, and, any tips on how to nail down the smoke.
Done in Photoshop, 1 custom made brush (for the falling snow), 2657x2000 (300dpi)

Maybe same result but you never know. That place is an excellent read even if you don’t get a reply there.
Here is a well know cloud tutorial. Might work for smoke like that.

You can browse more, socialise to make friends in the drawing circle in hope for advice.
Check out people's websites for tutorials and tips. You must read a lot of them to find a balance you can depend on and use later.
I have received advice like this:
“There is no point in making a thread to ask for help as people are not obligated to help you. They owe you nothing. It’s their time and knowledge you ask for and they don’t have to give it to you and especially to a stranger for free”.
I thought that was a pretty realistic piece of advice. It points out a lot of things. Like a types of culture, human nature and etc.
Not that I’m passing that on as discouragement for making a WIP thread or anything. I only mean to point that out as a reason for lack of response. Better to depend on yourself for finding useful information than to wait for it to float your way. I would be nowhere if I just depended on people coming to help me via my thread.
This thread for example is an ideal response?

Not many people get lucky and score tips tailored to their specific problem but we can still learn from their problem and solutions.
That’s my grain of salt or 2 cents.
Good luck with digital painting.

Also thanks for the tip about conceptart.org

Looks solid to me, the clouds and bushes could use some additional work as mentioned before, and the train could be a key darker aswell.
