View Full Version : Mental Ray Fur Problem

I was placing fur on a moose. The render initially worked fine with both software and mental ray render.
But when I raised the fur density, the mental ray render didn't work. And Maya quits automatically, leaving me with the attached error message: Runtime Error.

Does anyone know a way around this?

P.S. I also have a displacement map on the moose. The mesh is also subdivided /w the approximation editor.

Not enough memory!

Until you're completely done with the fur settings, see if you can skip the displacement map.

I usually try and make all the settings first and then add maps (baldness, length etc).

Displacement maps takes some time to render, so I often make test renders on my character with just the default lambert. And then assign the real material.

For the final render you can make separate renders for the character and fur by adding them to different render layers.

Thanks! I'll give that a try.
