When I try to open (or import) a DWG-drawing (autocad) into RhinoI only see the drawing in the top view. (sometimes I manage to view some of the lines in the other views). It is impossible to extrude a surface in the drawingarea. But if I try to do that outside the drawingarea it works(!). So my main problems are: why is not all my lines viewable and why can't I extrude something in the drawingarea? I really hope that someone can help me....

if you want to put the drawing in other view points then you have to import into that viewpoint, or you can rotate it. Not sure why you cant extrude in the view area, sometimes I just put everything in one layer as the import brings in the autocad layers too and I lock it and build new lines on top of it or make primitives as you can snap to the locked layer.
if there problems try exporting using other formats with various versions, like dwg2000 etc. also make sure its the same measurement spaces.

I would try exporting your 3D model from Autocad as a DXF or a 3DS and load that into Rhino.
I have had no problem so far importing the raw dwg though.

yes raw dwg contains the ACIS solid data that is way more useful to stay in NURBS.

polygons are to nurbs as line segments are to splines
