Hey lizardj,
Overall, it feels a bit static. Before the sync, seems like he is pegged into space horizontally, like he cannot move in X at all, which makes his spine/hips feel mechanical. This is at odds with his hands that are waving around and feel pretty organic. The pose you hit on persistence is a bit too even and mirrored, which is always something to look out for. I still find twinning in my work all the time.
Now for the sync. There seems to be some inconsistency in just how big his mouth can be. He hits a nice asymetrical mouth shape on the word suprises, but no other time. The audio chosen, the character sounds a bit bored though, which would make it hard to animate to anyways. Something seems awkward about his eyebrows in the beginning, like they are drifting around a bit. Eyebrows usually hit poses and hold them, its very hard to slowly drift your eybrow around. Try it while looking in a mirror and you will see what I mean.
Its a solid start and certainly better than I animated while in college. Where in Chicago are you going to school, I went to SAIC.

First of all, wicked facial rig. Secondly, I agree with primitive05 about how the torso needs to move in a way that matches the quality of the arms more. It should really move more, especially on the word "surprises".
Also, your sync seems to be slightly off. I'm sure it all looks like it matches up when scrubbing the time slider, but moving the keys to a couple frames earlier would probably make it look like it's hitting the right spots on time when played.

These are great inputs guys.
Primitive05, I appreciate you pointing out so much for me to study. That bits about eyebrows is so obvious I can't believe I didn't know it before. My next lipsync exercise I will make sure to pick a more interesting clip to work on, thumb out all keyposes to make sure they aren't twinning, and see to it my character doesn't get nailed in place. Btw, SAIC is such a pretigious school! I go to ILIA..
NathanHibberdCATK, first of all, thanks for noticing the rig! It took me FOREVER to setup this character. About the syncing part, I went and did as you said to move the keys a few frames ahead but couldn't tell if I liked it better.. My eyes are getting too used to this I think.

I feel like the cycles in the beginng can be pushed further but overall, you got it all. The acting is very convincing and the timing is right on. Great work!
