View Full Version : Background Question
miketche 02-27-2003, 04:57 PM Ok, I've seen images rendered that have really cool backgrounds. What I'm talking about are the images like perfume product shots etc. The object is sitting on the ground and you can see it's shadow and/or reflection on the ground. But then the ground seemlessly desolves into the background ie. no visable transition between ground and background.
How is this done. I've tried all sorts of things but haven't been able to figure it out and I think it looks so nice.

Take a look at the R8 tutorials, this is one of the first in there.

the way I've done it a couple of times is to make a texture that has a circular gradient in the alpha channel and then apply it to a plane, then you will have a floor plane that has edges that fade off
this technique was used in this the image below ( assuming this is the kind of effect you want )

Thanks Squid, that's exactly what I was looking for. :applause:
By the way I'm still using R 7.3 and probably will be for a long time.:annoyed:

No differences between 7 and 8 for this kind of things.

I'm sure there isn't.:)
I was refering to the fact that I do not have access to the R8 tutorials, because I still use 7.3. Unless of course they are online somewhere which I am unaware of.:hmm:
Thanks for the help.
