Title: Alpine Village
Name: Stefan Morrell
Country: New Zealand
Software: 3ds max, finalRender, Photoshop, ZBrush
I wanted to create a sci-fi style base/village & give it a christmas card atmosphere,
most of the buildings were made last year for another project, the mountain was done in zbrush, most of the work in this one was getting a decent looking snowshader to work with this particular scene(in the end it was a modified version of a shader DerPapa offered up in the 3dsmax forum)
thanks for viewing
Cheers
Stefan

wow - cool atmosphere. Great textures & lighting!
Maybe you can add some flying spaceships or vehicles - just a few moving objects, to get more action in the scene. But it`s already perfect.
Keep up the good work!

Thats a really slick render, reminds me of Iron Forge from World of War Craft. (in a good way)

I love the sci-fi style and the shaders. It looks more like a base to me, than village. Not much Christmas lights to make it look festive though.
Good work nevertheless.

thanks to CGSociety for the award..always appreciated:thumbsup:
todd4cgi & AndrewMarch, sorry this was made for my own use & way too many shortcuts were taken to make it viable as a commercial model(viewed from any other angle you'll see gaping holes in the mesh)
here's a link to the thread I was reffering to for the snow shader
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=6&t=117715&highlight=snow
Dave Black & DerPapa both came up with some excellent examples
I stayed pretty faithfull to DerPapa's shader, just with new textures & a bit of displacement added
thanks again for the comments

Beautifull image! Excellent rendered. It has the deep and strenght to transport you to some other place. Even though there is no people around I can fell them working and living inside. It remembered me a place on a novel I recently read: "Consider Phlebas" by Iain M. Banks.
Congratulations!

I'm nowhere near this level in 3D so it seems wrong to crit but I do think it needs something. My preference would be for a snowborder, glider, patrolman, more snow/wind effecting the air but this is all hearsay. It is an amazingly well crafted and rendered scene

The image is great, I'd love to see some christmas lights in there ;) but the two closest walkways dont seem to go anywhere... I can see the others are actually buried in snow, but the close ones just kind of end....
