Title: Mr Octopus is late...
Name: vincent guibert
Country: France
Software: Digital Fusion, XSI, ZBrush
This picture was done for a 3d contest where the aim was to design an octopus. I tried to make something funny and to play with the tentacles. I'm actually doing a turn of the character that i will put on my website.

Awesome character! Could use some bubbles and background element though. Maybe move the octopus to the left more so you have more composition space to add fishes.

Hehe, i love characters and this is a really nice one! Well done!
I love the style and the facial expression! hehehe, really funny. Good stuff!
Some critique: There could be a bit more SSS, especially because it is an Octopus. He looks a bit to much like plastic (i know that sounds maybe a bit rude). Thats not what i mean. It's great, but a bit more transluciosity could have a nice effect. The particles and the color of the water are good, but maybe you could try to make it a bit more blurry on some parts and it could look nice if the water on the bottom of the image would be darker... now the blue is quite the same everywhere... but normaly an ocan get darker the deeper you get. So the top of the image maybe in the same blue, but the bottom a bit darker, less colorful.
Just some ideas... maybe you already tryed it and it didn't worked.
If you have a look at me portfolio, you can see that i also have an under water scene. I KNOW it's quite difficult to do ;-)
Anyway: Well done Vincent!

Womball : Maybe the octopus could be more left, but n ot to much because I had to keep th e papers on screen. Thks for comment
Oli4d : Yes a bit more sss. I found it a little too clear after it, so I lower the sss but maybe too much. About Bacjground, it's a very speed done background. The contest was on character design and I made the background very fastly.

A great design! This octopuss is really nice, expressive and funny.
In my opinion, the render is very good, it is Authentic choice to make this cartoon render look, I think. Correct me if i'm wrong.
About the background, I wonder if it is necessary to add things. It may overweight the picture, and could be worse than a benefit.
A clean good work for me, nothing to add. (Ok maybe some transluence could improve the undersea ambiance, but I would see it just by curiosity ;) )
Keep up mate!
