View Full Version : Extracting vertix information from 3D model files

Hello all,

I am looking for a 3D modeling file format that I can easily read vertex information from (i.e. if the file is of a 3D model of book let's say, then I'd like to be able to get the book's vertices from the file). FYI I am using C++ (VS.NET 2003). Thought about X3D. Anything else out there I don't know about?

You could take a look to the Wavefront OBJ File Format (http://www.fileformat.info/format/wavefrontobj/). It's simple and supported by every 3D package I know.

I wrote a .obj importer for Gelato. It's open source, and not really tied to Gelato, so you could adapt it to your needs.
