I'm a relative noobie to this, so I need some help.
I worked on a movie and have only final frames at 24 fps.
I've read all sorts of conflicting steps to take ranging from "give it up kid, you have to re-render everything at 30 fps with fields" to "just put it in after effects and make the comp 29.97."
I've heard 3:2 pulldown will work; I've also heard I should avoid it at all costs.
My files of shots from the film are all 24 fps. One or two shots of models I made for the film I re-rendered at 30 fps.
At this point what I did was frame blend with AFX for the 24 fps shots. I left the two 30 fps shots alone. All shots were rendered out of AFX to QT movies w/no compression and imported into Final Cut Express. From there I did my edits and made one QT movie that I imported into iDVD.
My final burned dvd was was quite good, but there are a couple problems. All the shots that were originally 24 fps will sometimes have strobing. If there is a fast camera move, I can see it. Also frame by frame inspection with my dvd player remote shows that the frames repeat in a 1-2-3-4-4 fashion as opposed to 1-2-3-4-5, i.e. the fifth frame is a reapeat of the fourth. Most of the time it isn't noticable, but like I said, a fast camera move gives it away. The two shots that were originally 30 fps are perfect; i.e. when I step through the frames with my dvd player remote there is no repeat at all.
After doing some reading, I feel like I've done this all wrong, and the quality could be better. Does anyone know of online resources or books that cover this issue? I've looked, but it seems like most tutorial address other situations. Help! When I look for another assignment I don't want a reel that cries out "beginner" and end up put in the "never hire this guy" pile.
Thanks in advance!
