Is it just me... I am following the documentation to perfection and yet when I render the complete map to texture, it works on some meshes and not on others!!!! ITS CRAP!!! Any other way I can do this without using Max built in features... I am on a very strict timescale, and to texture all the buildings in my game by hand (all shadows etc) will take far longer than I have. I need a solution, and since 3dsmax 5.1 is naff at this feature I need another way.

By the way, I am not using ANY modifiers other than standard UVWMap and Edit Mesh for the entire building. Not even UVWUnwrap. I just do the basics.

Any ideas?

Can you describe exactly the problem you're having? Step by step would really help too.

I've used render to texture quite a bit, works well, except for a couple quirks you have to watch out for.

Well its pissing me off... on some it works.. on others it doesnt. I dont have time to mess around with this. And Discreet couldnt help me. They take way to long.

Never mind. I have checked if the programmer can do lightmaps in our engine and he has said no probs!

So i can leave this crap feature to another time!

Can't help you then.

Although you may find Texture Kiln a better tool... it has much more depth for a texture renderer.

Or try out Bakersfield (http://www.scriptspot.com/download.asp?ID=1915), an improved-upon texture-render utility. It doesn't fu.. er.. it doesn't perform intercourse upon the object's mapping and such. Which is nice. I haven't used it much, but I seem to remember being thrilled to finding it. It's much more in tune with the way I think a texture-baker should work at any rate.

Ok, I downloaded Bakersfield... ARRRGGHHH!!! WHERE IS IT!!! I put the file in the correct folder but I can't find it anywhere... I emailed the author but he hasnt replied yet. Any ideas?

I just want to know where it is... It's in no render category I ever heard of!!!!

catagory: "Render".

It's called Bakersfield.

It seems somewhat reasonably straightfoward :) Sorry, I think that probably sounds a little too sarcastic, I'm just sayin' it's right there where he says it is. You're checking out under Customize Interface, yes?

I have it assigned in the Render menu (by using Customize User Interface -> Menus -> Group:Main UI -> Category:Render and then dragging it over onto the Render menu on the right side of the Customize User Interface window) right under the default Render To Texture entry. It looks so slick :)
