Hi, here is a render of the lexus (minority report) I modeled last summer. I used Nurbs surfaces and the modeling and texturing has been done in Maya. I am currently working again on it, especially the shading and texturing. I am also working on tracking a real footage, which I will use to composite the CG car on it.

Here is a 360 degree & wireframe render. (2megs)

Please feel free to leave me your comments, and suggestions. I will try to improve it the most I can.

Thanks guys

thats a mighty fine lookin model, look damn near perfect to me, I think the paint might look better if it were in a scene, reflections are kinda flat right now. keep the updates comin. :bounce:

Thanks for your comment, yeah the reflection is much better when I put the car in a scene, there is 1 or 2 spots I though I could refine my curves and nurbs patch, but I didnt had time yet, I am working on it to add it to my demo reel coming soon, be prepared ! ;)

looks good, but it looks like you haven't spent too much time with the texturing. It appears that you just turned on the reflections without really taking into account the fresnel effect (spelling?) You should hook up a sampler info into the reflectivity of your material to make it reflect where it should. If you want I could show you the shader I did for my cars.

Thanks for your comment Norb, yeah thast right I did the texturing pretty quick, I will try to play around more with it, I did a dome and used a city image for reflection map, and also added some kind of reflection planes and balls around the car to get some specular effects. Thats cool for your shader, I would like to see it, I work mostly in maya, and learning xsi right now, if you could email it to me I would appreciate that :) and it will give me a good idea. Thanks, Pat

here's what i'm doing with my car shader right now...

How did you go about texturing your tyres?

xsi is cool too, I use it lots. I prefer xsi's modelling tools and then I cart it over to maya for texturing an animation...

hope that helps

tell me how you textured your tires, or if you modelled the treads

Nice your mustang Norb, here is a close up of my tire, I also added the shader attribute, this is only a blinn with some tweaking, I render using a image dome for reflection. I added a bit of reflection on the tires to made them look shiny like car show oiled tires. I would like if you could put me an example of your car shader zipped in .mb or something. Thanks, hope this helped you, all the thread have been modeled in nurbs like the whole car, think nurbz!!! ;)

Thanks for your positive comments guys, I appreciate that, I will still spend some time to fix refine my curves and improve my textures as soon as I get a chance. Also I would like to see your hovercraft from minority report, it must be pretty cool, let me know if you posted it somewhere.

Hi guys, here is a new render of the car, I actually took the time to fix some curves, and also added shocks, and suspention on each wheels. I will post a new wireframe render very soon. I also tried to improve the shader a little, but I will have to spend more time on it. Please let me know what you guys think, thanks

Good work so far,

Quick question tho' - How are you getting the fake GI render in Maya? Or are you using Mental Ray with v4.5?

Also re: shaders for the paint work, there's a couple of really nice ones at www.highend3d.com in the maya shader section. I haven't used them yet but the example piccys look promising.

mmm, I think u have to improve proportions, surely u can insert a lot more detail in that car, and the front of the car has a diferent light distribution, watch closely your reference pics.

:)

P.D. If u want U can see mines at:

AS you see I´m modelling, and I have too less time for me to complete it, but.., u can imagine it

:D
