View Full Version : falling liquid
just do 3d 02-27-2003, 01:22 AM Im new to 3d and im learning the basics with truespace 5, just after some advice on how to make my attempt at falling liquid a more realistic one.
The liquid is my first attempt at metaballs and i'll go back and try them again because they looked fine untill i'd finished and the converted into polygon where most of them became seperated from each other.
what I was trying to do whas have them all joined except for the stray drops.
All advice for a noob would be great :buttrock:
Would I be better drawing some splashes and lathing them or using cylinders and deforming?

Nice render with the water and the glass but you should drop that program and get maya or lightwav, Another thing is try to figure out what you want to do with this programor any other, do you want to be an animator, Modeler, FX Artist Texture Artist.

Thanks for the comment, I have been experimenting with 3d for only a matter of months and so I want to learn to tread water in 3d before I can swim. I have got the learning edition of maya and am playing around with that but it,s frightening compared to truespace. I think that if I can learn how to use every tool in truespace (I dont yet) then that give me a platform to go on and learn one of the big boys.
Also the cost of one of the serious apps is another reason why i'm cutting my teeth on one of the small fish.
You said yourself you liked the render so I think truespace is just fine for now.

I need any advice/critisism you have, I always pay attention to what people say but I think im in a bad situation because truespace seems to be a yucky little program in a lot of peoples view.
But I love learning 3d and want to learn more, if you have done realistic water yourself let me know what I need to do :wavey:
If you have the time, I have a new website with some more of my work, advice on that too if poss (http://www.geocities.com/pure3d2003/)

Although you said that at the mement Maya is looking monsterous, if you have version 4.5 there is some fantastic built-in water and other great dynamics. Perhaps it would be worth your while to look into tutorials for Maya.

I wish I did have maya 4.5, that would be very handy :buttrock:
but I could never afford that at the moment, I have lots of tutorials for maya that I like to have open while I try the learning version.
From what i've gathered their is nothing you cant do with it but what puts me off is the hideous watermark :D and not being able to do large hi-res renders.
Could you lend me some basic modelling tips that I could, I would be very gratefull and post my result.
If someone advises me to get Maya in the next reply I give up :D
I simply can't afford it :annoyed:
