View Full Version : group vs locator
rhythmone 02-26-2003, 10:21 PM Could someone give me the rough on why you would use a locator vs group.
I am assuming that group is basically just a transform. I am trying to structure some rigging and am using a lot of locators... seems like I could just use groups as well.... but I am not sure if there is added features, or functional differences between both.

A Locator is simply a group node with a shape for a handle. If you delete the shape you will find that your locator is now a group node (which is actually just a transform node).
You can also give your transform node a non-shape selection handle by selecting display - component display - selection handle.
"group" is really simply a function to create a transform node for a bunch of stuff with various options.

Most people seem to create their own handle shapes and put them on transform nodes. That way you can scale and modify the handle to suit your purposes.
hope that helps.
