View Full Version : some poly meshes lose shading.
Dudeman 02-26-2003, 09:29 PM Here's one for ya........
I open a file that I created a while back that consists of many poly meshes.
Now, some of the meshes aren't shaded. Maya thinks there are shaders asigned to them. And I don't know how to get them to display shaded.
Any advice?
I think the solution might be in Polygon Display but I don't know where to start.
Any suggestions would helpful.

by not being shaded, do you mean that the normals aren't smooth anymore, or is it just showing up in wireframe?
if its the normals playin tricks on ya, just delete history, and edit polys> normals > set to face then edit poly>normals > soften.
if its the wireframe problem, it might be because the surface isn't connected to maya's initialShadingGroup for some reason. i've run into this problem a few times when converting files from one package to another. all you have to do is select the object and then assign a default shader to it. if that doesn't work. then you might need to open up the hypergraph, select an object that is shading properly, and your troublesome object and click view upstream downstream connections. from there, just MMB drag the node representing your bad surface onto the initialShadingGroup node and use the default connection.
those tips should get you up and running. let me know if it works.
