Title: An Army Summoned
Name: Michael Corriero
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop

Hi,
This image was done as a workshop tutorial for the UK magazine, ImagineFX Magazine.

www.ImagineFX.com

The image was printed along with a 4 page spread and a 19 stage process on the creation of the image in issue 012 January which was dubbed the (Christmas issue 2006).
I produced the image using Photoshop CS2 on top of a rough sketch. Some preliminary thumbnails were drawn up and then approved by the ImagineFX editor. I'm including some detail shots, and some sketches.

A larger version since when work is present here in a smaller fashion it tends to lose a bit of the crispness and details.

Other work done for ImagineFX Magazine in issue 009 Designing an Underwater Warrior
This was done as a character/creature concept. I'm including the original final sketch,
the thumbnail sketches, a profile shot of the final design and an unused concept.

The proportions were purposely exaggerated on the size of the head, hands, upper body and length of the jointed legs.

Final sketch and original process thumbnails with the helmet design sketch.

The profile sketch

An unused concept. I wanted the design to have a more human head shape and more character since this one was looking too much like a real creature. I was trying to find a fine line between a Character and a Creature for the final.

Hope you guys like it,
again..comments and crits welcome.

Hey Mike! Just spotted this and as I said on CA.org, you have some beautiful concept designs and sketches. I really like this painting, your use of colour is always great and you've managed to make the whole composition look dynamic. What I appreciate more than anything is the fact it's all hand-painted and you haven't used any textures to do the work for you. That's quite a rare thing these days and something to consider and appreciate, especially when looking at print resolution artwork.

Anyhow, lovely stuff, look forward to seeing some of those concepts fully painted and finished :)

Hi Mike,

You've done an impressive work here !
And it's a good idee to show the preliminary sketches.
They are very dynamic, and interresting to see your development.
Waiting for the next ones... :)

Take care
Cheers,
Agata
