View Full Version : Bake nCloth?
tntman 02-14-2007, 12:50 PM How to bake a nCloth simulation?
I know I can use nCash, the new Geometry Cash in Maya 8.5, but i wan't to bake the simulation to keys, like when baking active rigied bodies using "Edit - Keys - Bake Simulation".
(Using 'Bake Simulation' on nCloth don't work like "it should" , I have tried with and without nCashed nCloth objects)
The reason for all this is to be able to export my Baked objects with a FBX format to a older version of maya.

Is what you want an anim curve for each vertex of your mesh? (Rigid bodies only need to bake the transforms, not the vertices)
If you want to backport a cloth solve to maya 8.0 there is a plugin that is available if you ask support that will allow the 8.0 geometry cache to read in an 8.5 cache. To go back further you might consider something like using blendshape targets for key frames from your cached simulation.

Hi Duncan...
What i want is that the geometry is being keyed in its positions in every frame, so I can delete the nCloth nodes and export everything in a FBX format, like you can do with active rigid bodies.
I get what you said about baking active rigid bodies only need keys for the object because it is not deformable :), so I guess I need keys on every vertex of the nCloth beeing keyed in its positions in everyframe, that should be possible right?

So, yes, this is what I wan't, please tell me how to do this, if it is possible :)
This plugin that can use maya 8.5 geometry cash in 8.0 seems like a good ide, if baking the animation in the keys on the geometry is'nt possible, what is it called?
Why do I have to contact support for it, why is'nt it avalible on Autodesk AREA ? :)

I would recommend going with the plugin solution. That plugin was just finished a week or so ago I believe. Whether it will eventually end up on The Area I can't say. At any rate you should contact support and ask about it.
