View Full Version : Alpha soft shadows
Rossoo 02-14-2007, 12:23 PM Hello, I try to render nice shadows in Max of a Tree, the branches are alpha mask...but I can't... The only possible way for me is the raytrace shadows, but the shadows are to mush sharp and unnaturel. Someone can tips me. :)
Sorry for my bad english, it's not my langage.
Cheer.

ok, The only way I saw it's switch to MentalRay Renderer, and after that you can tweak some blurry effect in the adv. Raytrace. But....it look bad. The last thing to do in my opinion it's to render shadows map and composite in photoshop and do a handmade gradiant blur. If you have others possibility, share it.

If you use soft raytraced shadows in Mental Ray, you need more Shadow Rays (shadow sampling) to smooth them out so, otherwise you'll see more dithering and dots where the shadow is soft. More Shadow Rays makes very high quality soft raytraced shadows.
