Hey guys,

I have this character with a bucket of water in his hands and he is walking.

What I would like to do is to have the water move around in the bucket and maybe splash a little, etc.

How would one go about doing this?

Thanks.

Off the top of my head I'd say Realflow (http://www.realflow.com), but that's a plugin-thing, and not a super-cheap one at that.

However, you can fake the whole thing by making splashes using particles I'd say, and the water-surface using.. using.. what, morphing perhaps? That requires work from your end though to make it look right, but.. well that's how it is with everything I suppose :)

The splashes would be a couple of particlesystems, maybe some of them set to Metablobs thing, affected primarily by gravity obviously. The water could perhaps be controlled by a low-detailed control-cage (ie. Meshsmoothed afterwards), make some morphtargets, and do the moving-around-thing manually?

Take a look at the demo scenes that ship with MAX. Randy Kreitzman made a Flex demo back in R3 that showed a cup with sloshing liquid that was spot on. I'm pretty sure it's still shipping with the current version. In a nutshell, his method used geometry that filled a cup to look like water. Then he had flex on the liquid and constrained it's shape to the glass so when it wobbled, so did the liquid.

You might be able to use Splash.. maybe a bunch of noise modifiers..

I've done a couple of experiments with boolean, you could see about making a boolean of your noise-animated water surface, and a dummy bucket to but out the excess.. maybe?
