View Full Version : Joining smooth proxy objects

I know there have been similar posts about this before, but I've reached a stage where I need to join two halves of a car together.

I've created one half using smooth proxy, and thought that it would be simple enough to duplicate the proxy mesh, mirror it and combine and merge vertices to original. I assumed that the smooth object would follow suit but this isn't the case.

What's the best way to achieve this, based on the fact that I've done all the modelling of one side already. Doing a mirrored instance of the smooth mesh is not ideal as I do need to make some tweaks to the proxy on both sides to remove seams.

I've also had a look at CPS but I'm not sure if that will help here or whether I need to have built the proxy using CPS from the beginning to let me use the MIRROR and STITCH command?

Here's the two components, proxy and smooth mesh.

Thanks in advance,

Hey Oli,

Just delete the smoothed object, do your duplicate of the low res mesh, merge vertices and re-smooth proxy the object. You may have to clean up some layers too...

Here is a quick video tut of the process (no sound):

Hope it helps.

DOH!!

Thanks a lot for the solution and the video!!

Sometimes it's staring you in the face and you just don't see it.
I had completely forgotten that the smoothmesh was calculated from the proxy mesh originally so it makes sense that it can be created again using the proxy, no matter how complex the proxy has become.

Thanks again!!

:) Glad to help. Happy modeling!

but i think that is not the best thing, i wanna make the proxy intact, to i will can modify the proxy of the object, or, better, mixing the 2 duplicateds proxys, how to do that.

ps: i'm sorry if my enlglish is bad, but it's not my native language
