View Full Version : need help with night time textures
JuddWack 02-12-2007, 02:12 PM i'm struggling with my first attempts at night time textures. should they be very dark or just have weak lighting information? when i set all my textures to a mid grey it seems my scene is very brightly lit so obviously i'm doing something wrong. any words of advice will be appreciated.

Well, from my experience, the textures can be painted as if they were day (normal) and the lighting should dictate the setting for the night.
Also on another note, for lighting. Use a low ambient light to get your base light, and for key areas of the scene, such as points of interest you would have a stronger light that is brighter.
Its all in the lighting :) hope that helps.

Thanks for writing. This is helpful. When you say "the lighting should dictate the setting for the night" if I was making a scene for about midnight I should have a bluer tint and softer drop shadows. Things like this?

Yea if you think about it in real life, the texture of things around you dont change at night do they? [Or at least I hope they dont!!!] The only thing which changes between night and day is the light, so texture as per normal and make the lighting create the feeling of night.
