03-01-2003, 11:49 PM
:applause: :applause: :applause:
very very very very very good!!!
that city is just soooo real! the way that every window seems to have something inside it, as to be each different... i don't know... very very good!!!
03-01-2003, 11:50 PM
Incredible attention to detail there... And it does have sort of a Bladerunner feel - and that is _never_ wrong! Any daylight shots to show? I think the first close-up is almost better than the full view. You must have some serious hardware to push all that geometry around too... Excellent! I give you five bouncing guys:
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
03-01-2003, 11:58 PM
Holy freaking poop.
Looks like you must have used some sort of procedural texture for the buildings...
03-02-2003, 12:01 AM
how about making a wallpaper? :)
03-02-2003, 12:03 AM
Just amazing :]
Could you give us any technical detail of project? Polygon count, used texture map size etc...
keep up rocking :]
03-02-2003, 12:21 AM
03-02-2003, 12:24 AM
d00d, that must have taken u a heck of alot of tym... Love the final product! :D

03-02-2003, 04:00 AM
How did you do this?!?
03-02-2003, 04:12 AM
Awsome, but my favorite part is knowing you built this beauty in 3ds Max. Just goes to show the proof is in the pudding!
Excellent work! Keep it coming!

03-02-2003, 07:56 AM
Woooow, man. you did it, Well done...
03-02-2003, 09:11 AM
Great work. Looks like you used alot of ilumination maps on the gemoetry like Eric Hanson has done. I really enjoy the sense of space and the buildup of the different types of geometry. Please keep up the good work. I would love to see more.
03-02-2003, 09:17 AM
Very impressive! :buttrock:
I'm also trying to do something like your city......
....can you tell me how you made this.. if you used any plugin (such as greeble) or you have modeled all the buildings.
And i also want to know how you have textured all the city... :) because i've tried but i've got bad results :)
great work ! looks coool !
how long did it take you to setup the whole scene ?
tell us about your render problems with so many polys :)
03-02-2003, 12:17 PM
how many people were involved in modeling the city?
i think the moddling is easy but nice work.
How did you make the ligt glow? Only texturing?
03-02-2003, 01:17 PM
Awesome piece of art !
More infos about texturing and rendering would be appreciated.

03-02-2003, 03:35 PM
03-02-2003, 04:45 PM
Amazing, did you use a camera projection technique or is it textured manually?
03-02-2003, 06:00 PM
WOOOW :) :) :)
03-02-2003, 06:02 PM
amazing, PLEASE post a high-res shot PLEASE!!! :D
03-02-2003, 07:01 PM
seeing your image made me piss into my trousers.
the skyscraper in front is not just superduper detailed, renderd ...
but also impressive architecture.
the sinister mood and the heavy structure of the building with the glass parts that cut through the block take my breath ... and aaahm! yeah the trousers ...
03-02-2003, 08:22 PM
:applause: :applause:
Oh my god! it's great! tell me how did you manage to not get lost between such a high amount of buildings jejeje, it reminds me a lot to "Balde Runner" too, great work, a big attention to details indeed.
03-02-2003, 10:42 PM
HOW THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT?!!?!? All of us want to know the process! PLEASE! enlighten us!
03-03-2003, 01:38 AM
thanks you for you cool comments
sorry for my english
this specification is just for the background
the post prod took about 3 weeks (2 days for rendering) where as the animation lasts 2 mn for the clip of calogero (sp6men production)
nevertheless the fact remains that the system has undeniably some problems because of speed of cameras system and also because we had too many animate texture, therefore, I worked more precisely on the texture and on the compositing 3d
I define "compositing3d" as a way to perform these 3d (layers) computations
it stands for :
layer of animate roads
layer for volume light
layer1 for lighting 3d
layer2 for lighting 3d
layer for the sky
layer for raytrace
layer for fog
each layer must be computed having due to regard to each sequences (4)
.computer : 8 station working (sgi/pc) (bipro 1gig)
.textures (animate) : 60 giga
.render/frames maxi : 4 min scanline process
.layers : 18
.faces : 500 000
.Frames : 2400
03-03-2003, 04:46 PM
how did you do all the texturing... give me a hint! :bounce: :bounce:
03-03-2003, 06:09 PM
Wow thats great work....
can you post a high res pic of the textured overview (something like 2560x1024) cause i need a new background :D :D :D
impressionant, j'en ai le vertige :)
03-05-2003, 11:01 PM
Totally awesome, breathtaking stuff. Once again I'm inspired on so many levels.Maximum Rrrespekt.

04-04-2003, 12:51 PM
When i watched the Calogero video "En apesanteur" i wondered who did those great scenes.. I wouldn't ever think that max can be so powerful with large scenes.. I'm a new max users who was depressed because he finds out that every cool clip he watch is done with maya. but not anymore.
the animated maps..how did u create it ??
which version of max have u been working on ??
& by the way..the song is gr8 too.
04-06-2003, 08:07 AM
04-06-2003, 09:23 AM

sorry by my english.
04-25-2003, 12:18 AM
the software is 3dsmax 3
04-25-2003, 12:56 AM
will you plz tell us about the animated maps..how did u create them ?? are they real or cg ?
04-25-2003, 02:10 AM
the map is classical cg, i paint with photoshop and animate with after effect:)
04-25-2003, 02:18 AM
you can better see the texture on this picturehttp://www.3dvf.com/DATA/galerie/artistes44/artist875/51cffdda5f.jpg
04-26-2003, 04:34 AM

Simply Awesome!
04-26-2003, 04:32 PM
Incredible work exquisitely detailed. Must have taken forever. Can you give us any details of your texturing process? Did you use modified digital images? Or were the textures made from scratch?
In the closeup screenshot I notice the building on the right looks similar to the Shanghai World Financial Center. (http://www1.umn.edu/urelate/m/winter2002/15shanghaicenter.jpg) Surely this must have been by design. Nice choice though, lovely building.
04-26-2003, 11:49 PM
please, see higher in the forum or I give specification for textures.
titanium : Gooood, seen weel for Shanghai World Financial Center, i took some shangai and tokyo tower like inspiration:eek:

Good heavens! I thought the first images that you posted had an unbelievable amount of detail in them, but the close up just blows my mind. I am inspired, humbled, jealous and full of admiration all at the same time.
05-19-2003, 11:04 AM
Holy poop on a stick! Well, that blows my 3d city off the map. It's so good it makes me want to cry. I tip my hat to you.
05-19-2003, 12:15 PM
thank you very much celezionka and goldeneye for your message
05-19-2003, 07:38 PM
Just jumping on the bandwagon here... Awesome stuff!!! :bounce: I'd also like to know what the poly count is..
05-19-2003, 07:38 PM
very impressive work. I usually dont like to post when half of the forum is already there too....but i must drop a line on this one.
seems like there's lots of Q concerning the texture....
what I'm curious about is your Lighting and Post work...Can you say anything specific about that ?...like
How do you handle the lighting for this one? What is the major concern in the post, beside compo?
Beautiful set. Great texture work!!
My Digital Environment Post: Factor City (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=62974)
05-20-2003, 01:20 AM
Stunning piece of work! 5 stars from me!

05-20-2003, 01:42 AM
Are you freaking serious you did this? If I had a gun to my head I couldn't do it.Congradulations to you, you have done the near impossible.
05-20-2003, 06:45 PM
hey, tanks you all, i try to explain in english
the texture is a basic textures (just paint overt any photo or totaly paint for the forground) but thanks the compositing technique, this picture is not a full render of 3dsmax, 12 render (layer) compose this image (see page 4 ) , i separate ligthing too : right light, middle, left ect...for speed...what makes the variation of light is the cube reflexion (picture of real town ), the reflexion is a independant layer for manipulate in after effect.
:) :) :)
05-20-2003, 06:50 PM
more resolution, sorry for the left logo (i can' t post a big big resolution because i don't have a ftp)
05-20-2003, 11:53 PM
hey man what have you done! you will make people give up the 3D job.
i can't find any word for your renders in my small small dictionary!
you should start modelling the matrix when get bored.
i had also seen the model you use for your avatar and it is also freakin detailed. how can you handle this scenes i can't understand.
do you use glasses? :)
05-21-2003, 12:26 AM
hehe no, i don't have glasses:) but i like modeling with the full little object for compose my scene
Wow oh wow ...
Awesome - what a breathtaking piece!
05-21-2003, 01:34 AM
Just wonderfull :D ... I have one little question did ya use a trick while rendering the city ? Like using a mirror at one end of the city to make it look bigger...
I rendered something to show that I mean
the objects are exactly the same in the 2 pic, the camera placement aswell... just a little diference in the texture
05-21-2003, 01:46 AM
so, i used a a simple pluggin (i don't remender the name)who were useful to me has to duplicate the buildings, i create 20 different buildings and i paint with this pluggins on a planar, this plugg allows changed axes in scale and move (xyz)
05-21-2003, 01:48 AM
05-21-2003, 02:00 AM
ok tnx :D
07-08-2003, 01:22 AM
I have no words about this.........this is the most fantastic cityscape environment i ever seen in my short period of life.
Its so perfect thjat i dont know how it is not rating five stars right now...
It also proves the determination and passion of the artist/architect/demi-god-creatrue for art , for making this kind of thing possible.
I juts had to revive this one from the bottom to the top.
07-08-2003, 01:29 PM
07-10-2003, 05:08 PM

07-11-2003, 06:23 PM
How long that take?
07-12-2003, 04:42 PM
what plugin you used to create the city?
great work ! great result!
07-13-2003, 11:04 PM
wonderful!! I love it!!
07-14-2003, 06:29 AM
immediatly when i saw your pic it reminded me of something BUG compaigne would do. i wasnt really suprised when i saw it came from paris, i think all europe has such a wonderful eye for colors, i love the dark greens, the bright orange. beautiful pic.
07-25-2003, 09:21 PM
what plugin you used to create the city?
07-26-2003, 03:38 AM
NO, NO, you know what..NO, NO, NAH A.....NO ....
*LOL LOL LOL LOL and passes out
07-26-2003, 09:13 AM
I''m going to take a stab and say the plugin he used to generate alot of the city is "greeble". It's available free for max r3,r4, and r5, and you can download it here:
Please note, however, that his city it's a work of art, and this plugin will not just spit out a city for you. But it is exeptional for getting the basic modeling out, as well as laying out and mapping the geometry.
07-26-2003, 10:58 AM
I did not use GREEBLE to create this city, I manufactured a score of original buildings then I used a script(greg leborgne) which resembles has Paint effect(or scatter) to duplicate the buildings.
07-26-2003, 11:16 AM
Very good job
07-26-2003, 05:36 PM
I stand corrected. And I did not mean to imply that you "generated" the city, but more that you could have used greeble to fill in the geometric gaps and help with texturing.
07-26-2003, 07:20 PM
Yup, that's all I got...
11-02-2003, 01:14 PM
