Okay - got Pinky rigged up and set for posing. Still have to rig and set up Brain. Whaddya guys and gals think - is the fur too much? I'm not quite sold on it yet. I know, my lighting's kinda crappy, but that's coming as soon as I get the set finished.

Anyway, C&C's more than welcome - specifically "To fur or not to fur....".

Thanks!

It looks.. alright.. what I can see.

The brightness makes it very hard to make out anything apart from the basic shapes... can you render it without the fur or whatever the white stuff is?

do u have shadows on the fur? it looks selfiluminated!!

Here's the no-fur render... The fur is set to cast and recieve shadows, but I've got a little more tweaking to do on some of the inner settings. I actually had the fur just how I wanted it, then accidentally destroyed the settings. Yeah, I hit myself on the head a few times for that one... :annoyed:

Anyway, here 'tis -

I've re-rendered and re-posted both pics. First off, the new camera angle makes everything a bit easier to see. Second, I did forget to turn on shadow reception for the fur. :hmm: That'll teach me to thnk I can skip that afternoon pot of coffee....

As always, C&C strongly appreciated.

Do not fur because it makes you great looking model look like crap. Sorry for saying this but it is true the fur is too bright and it looks like it is giving off a glow. But the model still looks good.

i personally loved the fur:xtreme: it added your own special touch....it didnt take much off of the model i could still see the details...i thought it was perfect minus the whole shadow thing

I think if you got the fur down, It would look VERY cool, kinda velvet-like. How many lights do you have in that scene? Looks you're casting shadows all over the place. I think, pull the fur a little away from the non-fur surfaces, like the eyes (maybe surface the edge of it in the same color but without the fur) and tweak the fur a little and you'll have a really nice model.

I think the models look very good but keep the fur off... and as far as lighting... it looks like you have some kind of dome light thing going on? If so turn the shadows offthe dome light and put one spot light in and turn the cast shadow. it will make it look alot cleaner... and maybe more cartoony!

The light rig is just a general spinning shadow mapped light dome rig - I usually use it to see as much as possible of the models while I'm texturing. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm gonna spend some free time over the next few days getting the rest of the scene together - I might go ahead and render one with and one without the fur. Just for grins. :p: More posts to follow!

Yes I definitly think the fur is not working in this scene. I think it looks better without. But I would like to see what it looked like when you had it set before you deleted it.

Pretty much glowed. Imagine driving over virgin snow with really bright headlights pointed directly at the ground. Kinda. Anyway, it was a bit ... bright. If I can find the file, I'll post it up again - I took the render time to clean out my crap folder on my HD. That pic just happened to be in that folder.

But, it sounds like the fur is getting the big thumbs down. Great. Now I actually gotta texture or somethin' :D Thanks to everybody for the opinions. More to come!

I saw this post

and immediately thought of this thread. I think if you could get the fur like that it would be extremely cool.

Thanks for the link! That's the same general feeling I'm trying to get from the fur. I think, with some more tweaking and general ... talent, it could come out a bit like that! I'm gonna end up doing two versions of the final pic - one with and one without fur, I think. Anyway, I am still working on this one, but my free time has been seriously cut into of late. Hopefully I'll update soon!

Thanks again.

you know.....
I prefer the NOn-FuR better.....
or you can try using fur...but the lenght should be smaller [is that rigth???]...
try rendering without fur using GiJoe and couple more ligths...
kinda make a velvet effect....

The version withou the fur is really more likely the cartoon you see on Television. The version with the fur make the models look as they were covered by snow or small pieces ice.
By the way, I dunno, but it looks like Brainīs head looks like a mushroom, maybe you could make it just a little smoother...

just a suggestion anyway...

Obviously, I still have a lot of work to do. Lighting is my biggest weak spot, so any suggestions would be warmly welcomed. Of course, feel free to C&C anything else, too...

Hopefully more soon!

well to help you with you lighting problem i would ad a second light in front of the scene to light u the face a little more. But besides that the scene and the models look great.

Little work on the lighting. Got some work left to do, but work is really screwing with my schedule on getting this done! Anyway, more updates soon, I hope.

Okay, there's a small amount of hair on this one - I'm actually wondering now if it's not enough... But, I'm trying a two layered approach, with a darker undercoat to avoid the glowing look of some of the earlier fur. Anyway, the scene's not done yet, but it is finally getting closer! Please let me know what you think, 'cause comments are cool!
