View Full Version : Painter max. resolution
Well i started a painting in PS at a resolution of 2500 x 25000pixel with 300dpi.
(the final print should be 20 x 200cm (7,8 x 78 inches), although i subdivide it 10times at the end so that i have 10 7,8 x 7,8inch big prints)
Nevertheless i have to work with that resolution because it is ONE painting.
So i switched to painter and well first of all it canīt load the file, because it is to big.
My question is if i still get good prints at the max. painter resolution of 1600 x 16000 pixel with 200 dpi?

200 ppi/dpi is okay for a large image, but since people are going to hold the smaller images up to their face closer, they will notice the lower resolution.
Why not start the painting at the max resolution that you can in painter, then break it up in two or more pieces and finish each segment seperately?
You could finish the everything but the edges of the broken up images, then peice smaller segments where the images will meet together and finish those portions, then reassemble the whole thing in photoshop which can support the higher resolution.
edit> Oh, sorry, I somehow missed you saying that you already started the image in PS.

I will second RetroTorque.
You can slice up the file in PS in many files using guides, import in Painter and work specifically on each file-segment.
Then import all Painter files in PS and fix the edges/connections into one big piece.

The maximum dimension, either width or height, or both width and height, Painter will allow for a new Canvas is 54.6 inches (the equivalent of 16380 pixels at 300 ppi).
If we try to make it larger, the OK button is greyed out until we reduce the number. Even 54.7 inches or 16383 pixels at 300 ppi is too large.
